Mazda2 Goes Electric

Mazda2 EV
As a relatively small brand, Mazda has not the great opportunities to invest in all kinds of extremely fuel-efficient power trains. But step by step they are there nevertheless. First with the Mazda2 and the bi SkyActiv technology, now again with the Mazda2, but an electric. Series production is however yet.

The electrical Mazda2 (Demio in Japan EV) that the brand presents only on a trial balloon from 1 October next will be deployed in the domestic market. Hundreds of copies of the electrical Mazda2 are built to be housed in Japanese leasing companies. The final riders Mazda hopes to gain useful information for further development and possible eventual mass production of electric power trains.

The electric prototype based on the Mazda2 has a lithium-ion battery pack and weighs 1.180 kg. The drive unit it feeds is 102 hp and 150 Nm strong and the car emission free 200 km far. Striking is the charging time. Which is relatively fast if there are charged with a quick charger, 40 minutes, 80 percent of the batteries again "filled", good for driving mileage. Fully charging the regular electrical outlet takes a lot longer, which is eight hours.
